Qualcomm India
Qualcomm Incorporated (www.qualcomm.com) is a leader in developing and delivering innovative digital wireless communications products and services based on CDMA and other advanced technologies. Qualcomm India Private Limited (QIPL) established its operations in 1996 to locally grow its engineering and business operations as well as advance CDMA adoption in this key region. During the past ten years, the CDMA subscriber base (Mobile and Fixed Wireless) in India has grown rapidly, and currently stands at nearly 20 million users.
QIPL has its corporate presence in Mumbai and Delhi. QIPL also has development centers in Hyderabad (to help keep pace with Qualcomm CDMA Technologies' (QCT) expanding business needs) and Bangalore (to perform hardware design and thus, help Qualcomm further address the increasing demand for faster time to market of more affordable, feature-rich products).
The Qualcomm Internet Services (QIS) division is responsible for the BREW product suite, which is currently being commercially deployed in India by both Tata Indicom and Reliance Infocomm.
The BREW® solution is a family of products designed to meet the distinct and varied needs of wireless operators, handset manufacturers, publishers, developers and end users around the world. It includes an array of modular products and services designed to enhance the wireless experience for end-users, expand the applications marketplace for developers and create new service offerings and revenue streams for operators. QIS is actively seeking to grow its base of local publishers and developers in India.
In December 2004, Qualcomm opened a BREW Developer Lab in Mumbai. The lab, one of nine BREW developer labs worldwide, provides Indian application developers access to the latest BREW-enabled handsets, software and testing tools. In addition, the lab provides hands-on Qualcomm technical support to BREW developers.
Additional Qualcomm business units with operations out of the QIPL office include: Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT); MediaFLO Technologies; Qualcomm Government Technologies (QGOV); Qualcomm Technology Licensing (QTL) and Qualcomm Wireless Business Solutions (QWBS).
